French Chateau interior with Games Table

This image shows the interior of the grand salon of Barbentane, a chateau in prevence*. In the centre of the room sits a games table very similar to the one we have in stock (see image at right). Charming Louis XV open armchairs and sofas provide seating comfort. While the white paint is typical of the Louis XV period (1715-1774) the black paint is not. These chairs are almost certainly genuine 18th centruy chairs painted black with the dreaded "Louis Philippe black" during that reign (1830-1848). Then a fashionable imitation of costly ebony, the black paint is almost impossible to remove. Wits observed that the furniture of Louis XV and Louis XVI was in mourning for Marie Antoinette.
