Downton Abbey/Highclere castle Dining Chairs

This image shows the dining room at Highclere Castle in

its TV role as Downton Abbey. The chairs are Hepplewhite

Shieldback chairs. We have recently sold a set of 18th century

ones but have a set of six later, but still antique copies available.

It has been widely speculated that some (if not all) of the designs published 

in Hepplewhite's posthumous design book are, in fact, those of

his widow, Alice, rather than by George.
